Two sailing friends met over 20 years ago in Salcombe whilst teaching others the delights of the sea. Following their teaching lessons, they regularly finished a day with a Gin and Tonic! Little did they know that they would be the brains behind The Salcombe Distilling company two decades later. As perfectionists who pride themselves on quality and an eye for detail, they turned their dream of making Gin into a reality.

The Salacombe Gin history
Salcombe`s history in the 1900s was defined by the numerous fruiters trading ships that imported various citrus fruits and spices from around the world, including the Azores, West Indies and the Mediterranean. It was important for the Salcombe distilling company to promote the history and develop Gins using fresh citrus peel and Mediterranean flavours, so fresh lemon peel, lime and grapefruit fruit peels were utilised, alongside the actual fruits.
The Start Point name was used to mark the Start Port Lighthouse, which helped to keep many a ship on course whilst negotiating one of the most exposed areas of the Peninsula.
This Gin has freshly peeled citrus fruit – peeled daily at the same time to ensure the best essential oils are caught and used during the distilling process of the Gin. Alongside the finest Macedonian juniper berries, Liquorice brings a slight overpowering soft sweetness, whilst green cardamon brings a background warmth. The result is an exceptionally intensity whilst remaining smooth Gin, which should be paired with a premium tonic garnished with lime and enjoyed repeatedly!
The Rose Sainte Marie Gin – as the name implies, has a slight blush pink hue further enhanced when ensconced in the beautiful salmon pink glass bottle. Citrus is used again with warm red fruits, orange blossom and Provence herbs. This Gin provides delicate notes of rose petals, perfect for a balmy summer’s evening. This refreshing Gin is delicate in flavour but delivers on alcohol with an ABV of 41.4%.
Salcombe Distilling company pride itself in producing not only exquisite Gins but have also thought long and hard about the entire packaging, which further reassures the consumer that a high-quality drink is guaranteed.
